Constant improvement to a core offering. That’s my one-liner. Here. I pay for obvious value I get from backups for my family and other festures that are now part of my normal routine because they work so well. The photo editing upgrade is worthwhile, as is the discount and other features. I’m strongly hoping Google holds the line on price, and continues to add quality features.
This app and service is garbage. Google bills it as being able to backup your phone, let’s you select other folders such as messages, downloads, Snapchat, etc… to backup. But when you then get a new phone and restore from your old backup none of those folders come across, mms messages get mixed up or don’t come across. Removed a star because Google’s response was to follow the very instructions I already followed instead of acknowledging this app has major issues they need to address.
When using this app for doing a backup, during backup my caffeine button turns off after awhile. Then screen goes black of course, cannot see when the backup is completely finished. Please fix. Thank you. *Update: I tried your suggestion link. This did not make a difference. Caffeine button on equals, screen always on, button is located in drop down menu.
As far as I’m concerned this app (and it’s collaborative apps like photos, drive, etc.) are by far the most innovative, consistent, inspiring and feature rich of these app category, maybe even ALL categories. There are times I can’t find where the item I just downloaded is, come to find out it’s already and always already uploaded to photos of whatever other utility. Top notch. Google is imo is the industry standard as far as not just quantity, but quality too. 5/5
Most of the app is fine. The VPN is garbage. It’s slow, and disconnects out of the blue. Reconnecting (or just connecting) is painfully slow, and fails completely at times, it just gives up. I definitely wouldnt recommend signing up for Google One just for the VPN, use a separate paid VPN company (who is actually concerned about your privacy. Not a mega-corporation tacking on a half-baked feature to an app)
Great for extra storage; horrid for back up/restore. Can’t get MMS messages copied from one phone to another after two calls to support. The only way to restore messages is to factory reset, and you can’t see what’s in the back up (which seems to be the issue). Huge Google fail.
Completely disappointed with this app. It seems the only way to restore all the data that is backed up by Google One, is to restore it when you add your Google account! Why isn’t there an option, IN THE APP, to restore data? Why is it all or nothing? Luckily, I also backed up my data with Samsung’s backup tool. That app lets you select what you want to restore. I can restore call history, contacts, phone settings(!!!), and SMS. I’m really disappointed in this app!
Very slow backing up, well it does encrypt everything which is good there is no provision for being able to pull out a piece of the backup and examine it. For example pulling your SMS messages out so you can read them and download them to your hard drive on your PC if you need to do so. This is typical gen z thinking about customer friendliness and business they don’t understand any of it. Poorly written app when it should be written well by all these high IQ Google programmers.
This fairly price service is buggy, lacking in some basic functionalities, and there’s basically no tech support. Very disappointed with Google. I switched to Google One and Google Drive to replace the also-buggy Microsoft Drive, and was rather appalled to find out that (1) you cannot select folders for offline access, only specific files, one by one; (2) you can’t save files into Google Drive from an Android device, or at least not if the device is from Samsung. Ridiculous!
Good for catastrophic or FULL recoveries only. If you (like me) want to factory reset to level-set on performance then be warned you CANNOT select which parts of the backup you can restore. For instance, if you want to recover just SMS and call history, but start over with apps and settings, then that is IMPOSSIBLE. Very disappointing. EDIT: well selectivity appears to be moot since neither of my backups succeed (vague “try again” toast message). Overall very janky and not intuitive.
